Frisco ISD Helps Tornado Victims
Frisco ISD students, families and educators responded quickly in the wake of the severe storms that made their way through the Metroplex over Winter Break.
Several schools and groups took action to help victims get back on their feet after tornadoes ripped through homes and schools in local school districts.
Among the efforts:
Students involved in yearbook and National Spanish Honor Society at Wakeland High School collected bedding, hygiene items, clean-up materials (buckets, trash bags and gloves), diapers, jeans and other clothing items for tornado victims. Donations were made to Samaritan Inn in Garland and Life Message in Rowlett, a community center and food pantry.
The Lone Star Ranch community, which feeds into Bledsoe Elementary, Pearson Middle School and Reedy High School, began a collection to help the immediate needs of the tornado victims. Students began spreading word, and within 48 hours helped fill up a U-Haul with items such as jeans, coats, diapers, blankets, school supplies and winter clothing. Families helped organize all the donations by items and sizes and loaded the U-Haul.
School supply donations for North Texas tornado victims were collected during the FISD Dr. Pink Invitational soccer tournament in January. Items collected included notebook paper, pens, pencils, crayons, highlighters, backpacks, folders and more. Proceeds were delivered to the Garland and Community ISDs.
