What do you think about the screwworm outbreak - disaster and response Texas?
How do you think it will impact our Texas livestock and other animals, including pets, and beef prices?
What do you think about the use of sterile flies in targeted regions to combat this issue?
It's all new to me. Here's some gross pictures.

Ranchers who found screwworm infestation in cattles are required to report it to the USDA. USDA's standard response is to quarantine the ranch and the cattles cannot be sold or moved.

Guess how successful the reporting will be?

@Pecan7: It's just another gross disgusting maggot-like worm to cause me stress!!! I truly hope our ranchers and livestock biologist can rid this problem!

@Tamara :
As if beef is not expensive enough. The farmers and ranchers always get shafted having to invest up front and risking the crops or livestock getting destroyed.

Is there some kind of monopoly on pork ownership and production on the US?

@Pecan7 :
There is no monopoly on pork production in the US. However, most of the corporations are very big and run a vertical integration - farming, processing and packaging, marketing and sales.

I don't think there are many pig farmers that are independent. Most are contract farmers. The corporation owns the pigs, the farmers raise them. When I heard about it I found it so bizarre. But I think it takes away some of the risks when the farmers don't own it.
