Frisco Property Tax Increase Likely

In the recent special work session, the Frisco City Council tentatively approved a property tax increase from the current rate of $0.425517 to a new rate of $0.441289 per $100 property valuation.

The city's final budget has not yet been formally adopted. There will be public hearings on the budget on August 18th, 2026 and September 1st 2026.

To put this property tax increase into perspective:

- This new rate would still be slightly lower than the tax rate during 2018 through 2023 ($0.4466).

- It would mean an increased tax bill of roughly $79 per year for a $500,000 house.

- The rate would still be lower than neighboring Little Elm and Prosper.

Thanks. What a bunch of baloney. Shame on those that put this increase together. Shame! Very Prosperous citizens may not care but decent hard working citizens should not have to suffer this burden. Shame!
And what are the schools going to tax us? There is enough wealth in Frisco and Collin county that should and can readily cover most of what we pay in taxes. I don't support 'robbing the rich' to support minimum wage workers. HOWEVER, I can not fathom a lack of resources to cover the city and county basic financial needs without most of our property taxes.
Where is this money being wasted and who is benefitting from it?

I don't have the numbers but last year I read some convincing facts. I didn't save the reference. It seemed straightforward.

I have a feeling we will see this upside down planning to cause us to erode our society in a few generations. Living above our means as a city and a county may look like a good thing but we will pay for it like Dallas and Fort Worth and costal and other cities in the US and others are starting to see. Quit borrowing, quit pretending that bonds are not just a disguise for taxes. Didn't we already go through all of this recently? Nothing is truly free, 'Nice' things are not always necessary.
I don't like to be so negative but someone needs to say these things without fear and raise at least the questions and an honest debate (again) about these matters.
Maybe this needs to be on the 'Fast Lane' part of this website. If I have overstepped, I apologize,

Let me add that funding police, fire and other city workers, roads and infrastructure is vital.

@Pecan7: @Jjj: I'm trying to figure out why. The amount of residential growth should cover whatever increase they feel is needed. The only thing I can think of is property values have gone down so they are trying to compensate for it. That is said with only if the value is adjusted on the county record.
