@Jjj: oh my God! Too close to home I'd say!!! What is going on with people these days. Is it because there are so many more people around in the area we hear of these horrific incidents??

@Tamara :
Being homeless, my first thought is mental disorder...I wish there were more resources for people with mental difficulties...

@Jjj : That is so sad - there is so much help out there for those who need it - pray that others find the support they need as well

@ChrisR : @funacct : The "help if they want it" issue is really interesting to me. I have a good friend who has struggled his whole life with bipolar schizophrenia. It's hard to require someone to make a good mental decision before getting help, when the problem is with their mind itself. My friend was at one point in an absolutely terrible physical condition, and absolutely didn't want help. Only when he was very near to the point of death was he moved hy ambulance to the ER, and then to an assisted living facility…he never actually "wanted" help at all, it was forced on him….now, he's well taken care of, medication is consistent, and he's happier and healthier than he's ever been. He's told me "man, I don't know what I was thinking back then! I really almost died!"…which illustrates that requiring people to "want" help first may be unreasonable if the issue is the person's brain… Even though some find it disagreeable, it's kind of made me think that in certain cases of mental disorder, people really should be forcibly taken into care and they would be so much better off (and they would agree, if forcee to try it). But then there's also the issue of funding…
What's really interesting to me is, I've traveled the world rich countries and very poor countries but one thing I found interesting in most countries there are very little homelessness. It seems that all over the world but not in America, the families take care of one another. We have lost our senses and compassion. Kids are quick to move out. No love or connection to family. We gave up. So many families are just not families, it's very sad to see. The other issue is when things get too expensive and you can't afford rent etc. what to do. IN other countries when that happens they stay with family.
