FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fugitive Robert Gregory Johnson III Apprehended in Houston, Texas with Public Assistance and Multi-Agency Effort

[Harris County, Texas] – February 4, 2025 – Robert Gregory Johnson III (DOB: 01/17/1993), wanted on a Collin County warrant for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, has been taken into custody following a coordinated effort between law enforcement agencies and the public.

On January 16, 2025, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office issued a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert on social media, asking for the public’s help in locating Johnson. He had been on the run since August 2024, when he removed his court-ordered electronic monitor. Investigators had been actively searching for him since that time, exhausting all other leads before turning to the public for assistance. The response was overwhelming, with the post generating a strong public reaction and numerous tips that helped move the investigation forward.

Investigators with the Collin County Sheriff's Office Gang and Habitual Offender Strike Team (GHOST) pursued those leads and worked closely with the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force to track Johnson’s movements.
At approximately 9:45 a.m. today, officers with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force located Johnson at a McDonald's restaurant in Houston, Texas. During the attempted arrest, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Johnson was the only individual injured. While the extent of his injuries is unknown at this time, he is expected to survive.

Sheriff Jim Skinner praised both the public and law enforcement agencies for their roles in Johnson’s apprehension.
“This case highlights the power of community involvement and strong law enforcement partnerships,” said Sheriff Skinner. “The public’s assistance played a critical role in this investigation, and we appreciate every tip received. We also want to recognize the outstanding efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force in bringing Johnson into custody.”

The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Texas Rangers, and Johnson may face additional charges related to today’s incident. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
