Prosper Police Apprehend Thieves in Retail Theft Incident

From The Prosper Police Department:
Prosper… Gotta catch ‘em all
On December 4, 2024, A Prosper Police Officer was patrolling the 500 block of Richland Blvd. when he observed three subjects running on foot from a local business. He then observed one subject retrieve some property off the ground near the fenced area of the business. All three subjects entered a vehicle in the parking lot. The vehicle then left the parking lot at a high rate of speed. Based on their observations, the officer made an investigative stop on the vehicle, believing the subjects had just committed a theft from the store. Additional officers arrived on scene and helped detain the subjects.
During their investigation, officers confirmed that the subjects had stolen a Lego set from the business. Officers on scene observed the Lego set in the vehicle and could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Officers conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle to retrieve the stolen property and locate any marijuana. While performing the search, officers located additional brand-new, packaged items consistent with retail merchandise, including a computer keyboard, a microphone for a computer, gaming controllers, gaming earbuds, and 212 packs of Pokémon cards.
Officers also found drug paraphernalia, 10 grams of THC wax, 3 grams of THC oil, and marijuana. Two firearms were also discovered. One of the firearms was found to have been stolen in a vehicle burglary in another city. One subject was found to have an active warrant for their arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. The three subjects, all non-Prosper residents, were placed under arrest and charged with the following:
Subject 1 - Active Warrant, Organized Retail Theft, Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 2 >=4g < 400g, Theft of a Firearm, Possession of Marijuana < 2 ounces, and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.
Subject 2 - Organized Retail Theft and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon
Subject 3 - Organized Retail Theft
We commend our officers for being proactive and vigilant while on patrol. Another excellent example of how officers are out making sure the Town of Prosper is a safe place to live, work, and visit.
